Alicia Keys is a force to be reckoned with, but she needs your help….

“…President Obama has asked us to sign the bill by the end of the year on Justice Reform…” – Alicia Keys. With 1 million signatures we could start to see change in the justice system. Over 1million fathers are behind bars, a large portion of those fathers are men of colour. Alicia Keys, and TheBLACKMedia is asking you to SIGN THE PETITION Over 200,000 and counting, let’s start getting some of these men out of jail and show them that compassion and rehabilitation outside of prison works!! If Corey Booker, And Alicia Keys and so many more can contribute to change, so can you.

It’s over 30,000 dollars to keep one person in prison, why not develop a system outside of prison that actually reforms an ex-criminal thats cost effective, and humanly effective? The prison industry, yes industry, which means someone somewhere is making billions of dollars off of more men imprisoned, must change and it starts with you…WATCH:

A word from #WeAreHere:

“…We Are Here is partnering with #cut50 to host this petition as part of their campaign for #JusticeReformNOW. Join the hundreds of thousands who have already put their name onto this petition.

  • Our Justice System is broken, and the stats are striking.
  • The US spends $80 billion a year to incarcerate 2.2 million people.
  • 70 Million Americans have a criminal record.
  • 1 out of every 100 Americans is behind bars.
  • But most tragic, we believe, is that 2.7 million American children currently have at least 1 incarcerated parent.
  • We also believe that we have a critical moment of opportunity to create change.

SIGN THE PETITION

Right now, both houses of Congress have introduced comprehensive justice reform legislation. The Senate recently announced the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act, which would reform federal prison sentencing, reduce automatic and harsh punishments, and increase support for rehabilitation programs.

That bill was followed by companion legislation in the U.S. House, the Sentencing Reform Act. These reforms join other proposals including the SAFE Justice Act, which would implement broad based, system-wide reforms to curtail over-criminalization, enhance rehabilitation, and support individuals’ re-entry into society.

We are closer than ever, but we need your help. The President has asked us to help him get a bill across his desk before the end of the year…WE ARE HERE
