Alicia Keys Pens An Open Letter Explaining Why She’s No Longer Wearing Make Up #NoMakeUp

Bearing It All.

Alicia Keys decides to go make up free #NoMakeup as apart of her new album promotion. Much like in the picture above which has been circling the social media airwaves and the video below, Alicia is holding to this movement. Alicia Keys recently performed on SNL wearing no makeup, showed up to a few concert dates, no makeup, and in her latest musical video, wearing no makeup. Fans were wondering what was going on, some were even questioning if she was sick, or breaking out.

Some people can be ridiculous, but I guess if you’ve never seen your favorite artist without make-up and you start seeing them in this manner, heads will turn. In Alicia Key’s case, its a good head turner. The lesson here? Love yourself and if you feel empowered to let your flaws show, then let them show and let the world catch up to you.

Alicia Keys Says;

“I’d just come from the gym, had a scarf under my baseball cap, and the beautiful photographer Paola (never met a Paola I didn’t like) said, “I have to shoot you right now, like this! The music is raw and real, and these photos have to be too!

I was shocked. Instantly, I became a bit nervous and slightly uncomfortable. My face was totally raw. I had on a sweatshirt! As far as I was concerned, this was my quick run-to-the-shoot-so-I-can-get-ready look, not the actual photo-shoot look. So I asked her, “Now?! Like right now? I want to be real, but this might be too real!!”

And that was it. She started to shoot me. It was just a plain white background, me and the photographer intimately relating, me and that baseball hat and scarf and a bunch of invisible magic circulating. And I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt.” Full Letter Here

Alicia Keys HeadWraps;

Alicia has been wearing head wraps since she started her career. Head wraps are Afrikan tradition. Being part Afrikan Alicia now embraces that side more so than ever before. Her wraps make it easier to be free. You’d agree if you tried it.

  1. I have melasma from tanning too much. It started getting worse when I filed for a divorce, so it was equally as hard to accept. I spent $6,000.00 trying to clear it up, but nothing worked, so the only thing left to do was to accept it. Today, I go without makeup a lot, but if I choose to wear it, I do. Therefore, I support you Alicia Keys in your movement. You are beautiful with or without makeup.

  2. She looks beautiful. I’ve been waiting for an artist to do this. Thanks for sharing

  3. You’re more than welcome, thanks for leaving a comment and checking it out!

  4. Awesome. One more step towards authentic beauty standards. I’ve always found Alicia Keys very attractive, and now to discover she’s been hiding freckles all this time? Be still my heart! What backwards society would ever want to hide such a face?

    Now I just hope (and I obviously mean this as no slight at all towards Ms.Keys, but just thinking big-picture) that we can see such support for darker skin women as well sooner rather than later. Beauty of all kinds is all around us. We just need to rip the Cosmopolitan blinders off of everyone’s faces so they can finally start to see it.

  5. Beautifully said, but its funny you said support for Darker Skinned women because most Darker Skinned Women I know…normally dont wear makeup particularly because they can’t find their colour match, but also because that melanin is so crisp and clean they dont need it lol you’re a #SOULdier

  6. Been star struck ever since we met on Broadway. The style, music, I love it all.

  7. Well done to Alicia!! We need more celebrities like her!

    There is such a high pressure for Black women or simply women in general to look beautiful ALL the time, and beautiful in the media eyes means : with make up!

    I, for one, struggle with those 15 min eyebrows or lips etc. make up tutorials .. Who honestly has the time to do that every morning before work? Besides, even if I had time I wouldn’t want to make my skin full of products and prevent it from breathing! Don’t get me wrong, those tutorials ladies do look beautiful and I thank them for sharing! I have used a few tips here and there.. BUT the fact that so it’s so popular and followed by so many people shows how much we are all worried about wearing make up or not!

    So again, thank you Alicia, hope many more will follow!

  8. We have spotted her new campaign at UEFA Champions League final

  9. I love it!!! I don’t like or wear make up either. Its important for little girls to see that real is beautiful and enough!!!
