Even though this isn’t the first time Ms. Bankable has shown her gorgeous face, bare, no makeup, and in her dewy goodness, this time in particular, seemingly shocked thousands, and I cannot understand why. Unofficially, yes Tyra is in support of the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement, I think in many ways being, rather than posting a hashtag is more effective. Let me explain…

Understanding European beauty standards being forced down our throats, aka, white, skinny, structured face, blue eyes, or light eyes, blonde hair, straight hair…etc We all know the look, and considering Tyra Banks is a super model, I guess people took to this photo a lot more than her other bare face videos/photos.

Considering BLACKLIVESMATTER, and her simple post about beauty and #nofilter(s), I feel, share a nuance that is often over looked. I know right, what do they have in common?

The commonality with the powerful, bold statement of Tyra Banks barefaced photo and what the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement represents, it’s important to state: Who we are as an Afrikan race, undefined, especially by white standards, is enough!! We come in all shapes and sizes, skin colours, eye colours (including naturally blue eyes and blonde hair here), and hair textures. The media has a way of painting our skin, style of dress, look, wear, and naturally born physicality’s against us, even going so far as to use a beautiful model like Tyra Banks and represent her in many ways as “the right kinda black”.

This instagram photo and statement shows more than a silly hashtag misinterpretation, it shows control over what is often out of our hands, THE PORTRAYAL OF BLACK BEAUTY, the portrayal of Black faces, and people, it’s Tyra taking a stand to say …

You know how people say #nofilter but you know there’s a freakin’ filter on their pic? Or maybe there’s a smidge of retouching going on but they’re lying and saying it’s all raw & real? Well, this morn, I decided to give you a taste of the really real me. I wanted to smooth out my dark circles so badly!!! But I was like, “Naw, Ty. Show ’em the REAL you.” So…here I am. Raw. And there YOU are…looking at me, studying this picture. Maybe you’re thinking, “Whoa, she looks ROUGH.” And if you are, great! You deserve to see the REAL me. The REALLY real me.
