Raven Symoné is under attack!!!
I guess the biggest question is…does she deserve it? After candidly speaking on a hot topic on The View (Oct 8th), as a co-host its her job to have an opinion, but as an
“American” person of colour it’s also her job to preserve the integrity of her people. Seems
like millions feel the latter is the reason why Raven often says offhanded things. Many feel she is displaying self hate, therefore feels she does not have to preserve the integrity of people of colour. It all started with the interview with Oprah where Raven Symone was supposed to deliver her exclusive “coming out”, but instead the media picked up headlines on something else. Raven Symone was heckled, harassed and counted out after she boldly stated; “I’m not Afrikan American, I’m American”. Many tried to understand what Raven was trying to say, many tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, and for the most part, they let it go. Fans were excited about her new job on The View after noticing she was guest hosting a bit too much, but then Raven says something else that sparked major press, and then the final straw was broken, and yes her father Christopher Pearman stepped in, but not before Watermelondrea…
After Raven ignorantly and boldly stated in a live recorded video interview responding to her Oprah interview; “…I’m actually from every continent in Afrika except one and every continent in Europe except one”. Anyone with, well I was going to say anyone with a brain, but Raven has a brain and she completely missed the fact that Afrika & Europe are Continents and it cannot have Continents inside of it…Countries yes, states yes, cities yes, towns, counties, neighborhoods…well you get the point, but never CONTINENTS! After these stupid remarks failed to arrogantly and boisterously defend her questionable comments on Oprah Raven Symone did it again, and again, and again…and now the straw on the camels back has been broken and people are unforgiving. Raven Symone actually sat on national television, The View, and stated; “I’m not about to hire you, if your name is Watermelondrea (see video above)” citing that if you have a name that is perceived as hood, “ghetto” or ethnic she will not employ you.
Twitter, Facebook, and social media thrashed this woman so much that she felt she had to post a letter to Facebook excusing her words, but not before her father had something to say about it. Christopher B. Pearman, an author, and Raven’s ex manager posted on his Facebook page this letter;
There has been much talk today about my daughters comments on her show The View. People have been hitting me up all night questioning me about her remarks. Let me say this……I haven’t managed Ravens career in over 10 years. This woman is grown, has her own management team, has her own opinions, right or wrong, and is responsible for her own words and actions. A woman wrote to me tonight and said she couldn’t support my book because of the words of my daughter. What she fails to realize is that my book is about teaching your child to believe and achieve. Raven has achieved incredible success, and this cannot be denied!
Children grow up and become influenced by many things, situations and people. I certainly don’t agree with what she said….but she is damn near thirty years old. She’s a grown ass woman making grown ass mistakes. We all have been guilty of this.
I did my best as her father, mentor and career manager. I believe I did a Wonderful job. Aside from this inexcusable gaffe, her 29 years in the entertainment industry has been quite successful, for there have been only an Elite Few Child Stars to last this long and have little to no controversy. For this, I am Very Proud!
Raven is a really Beautiful, Sweethearted, Human Being.I should know. Her Mother and I Love her Very much and will always support her and have her back. Even if sometimes……….she says some dumb S#%T!
-Christopher B. Pearman
Now if Daddy is saying, Raven come on now, then maybe Raven does deserve the backlash she has been getting. You say hurtful things, you hurt people, people will respond. After the dust settled a bit, Raven took to Facebook to pen her letter, do you forgive her?
