Did You Know: J. Cole Turned His Childhood Home To A Rent Free House For Single Moms?

More Than Just A Rapper

J Cole, also known by his family as Jermaine Cole, bought his childhood home and made it available to single mothers in his hometown in Fayetteville North Carolina. Coming from an Afrikan American militant father who lived on an army base and a German Mixed mother who after splitting with his father moved the kids to a trailer, and eventually a home, its no wonder J. Cole is grounded. The home his mother purchased is the home J. Cole repurchased years after she’d lost the house, and its the house on Forest Hill Drive (Also The Name Of His Double Platinum Album), that will house the families. During an interview a year ago on The Combat Jack Podcast, J. Cole revealed his plans;

“What we gon’ do, we still working it out right now, obviously it’s a detailed, fragile situation I don’t wanna play with. My goal is to have that be a haven for families. So every two years a new family will come in, they live rent-free. The idea is that it’s a single mother with multiple kids and she’s coming from a place where all her kids is sharing a room. She might have two, three kids, they’re sharing a room. She gets to come here rent free. I want her kids to feel how I felt when we got to the house.”

     Amidst his album success, and the popular photo of J. Cole atop his childhood home’s roof, it was reported that there were people visiting the house, also taking a picture as he did. Kindly J. Cole asked; “By the way, tell people to stop going to my house and sitting on my roof taking pictures,”. This was a year ago, and today J. Cole has kept his word. A year after his announcing this, J. Cole has since gone on a “Forest Hill Drive” tour, which will help him fund his idea, he’s been featured in Janet Jackson’s “No Sleep” record, and staying off social media handling his business. No word on who’s living there now, but I’m sure its for good reason. With his foundation “The Dreamville Foundation” inspiring, encouraging and empowering urban youth, J Cole is one rapper who is the true definition of HIP HOP.
