20th Century Fox released the official trailer for “Hidden Figures” and within one day received over 10million views on Facebook. Movie goers cannot wait to see Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and in her debut feature film Janelle Monae star in what will be one of the most inspirational films of 2017, “Hidden Figures”. This movie will undoubtedly change the way Amerikkka see’s people of colour, more specifically B.L.A.C.K people. Why?

Hidden Figures, appropriately titled is an untold story about three women who knocked down so many doors in the world of NASA, science and technology. Plainly put, if it wasn’t for them there would be no Apollo 13, first man on the moon, or John Gleen who was among the first to fly into space during Project Mercury. That’s right, three Women of colour in the mid 1900s during jim crow, segregation, extreme degradation and sexism ended up being the most important parts to what Amerikkka knows today as endless possibilities. History classes throughout your school experience will never tell this story, many racist, white people, and people of colour have no idea about Katherine Johnson (genius mathematician), Dorothy Vaughn (mathematician), and Mary Jackson (engineer).

People of colour are often made to be seen as savages, unintelligent, lazy, and having no ties other than slavery to the betterment of Amerikkka, this movie, and many others before and after this one, will change the way Amerikkka see’s us, and if it doesn’t, it will absolutely provide the much needed hope that’s lacking in the Afrikan community today.
