True Blood star Nelsan Ellis dies. Saturday July 8th his manager reported the Juilliard graduate passed due to complications with heart failure. It was shocking news to close friends, colleagues, and of course fans. Nelsan Ellis was revered as a superior actor, with capabilities to embody any role and have you believe without a shadow of a doubt, that he was the character he portrayed.

Even though his resume extends beyond television, it was True Blood that made Nelsan an international icon. Creating history being one of the few people of colour to get accepted and graduate from Juilliard, it was there he met co-star and best friend Rutina Wesley (Tara). Together as cousins, Tara and Lafayette entertained millions.

Nelsan will be missed. Currently he can be seen in episodes of the hit tv show Elementary. Later on this year, or early next year the film, which is now in post-production, “True To The Game” from the Teri Woods novel will star Nelsan as Tyrik, a posthumous release.

Update: The family has released a statement that indicates Nelsan passed from drug and alcohol abuse. The family wanted to make sure, as a cautionary tale, that those dealing with, or considering using should stop. Drug and alcohol abuse led to his addiction, and his death, seek help you you too are dealing with issues. Drugs are never the answer.
