Keke Palmer’s Brilliant Idea For SAG | Mandatory Therapy For Child Actors

Keke Palmer stopped by Sway In The Morning to promote her new role on Berlin Station. During her interview, Keke brought up a great idea for child actors when asked if she would allow her future child to join the industry. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artist (AFTRA) are worker unions for entertainers and they help provide checks and balances, the two unions merged in 2012.

“I would never let [my children] go through it without therapy”

Keke proposes mandatory therapy for child actors under SAG’s union. Known for being one of the highest paid child stars, and a consistently working film star since her breakout role as Akeelah in Akeelah and the Bee, Keke knows a thing or two about what child actors experience. Keke is so passionate about this idea, she even says its something she could see herself pursuing down the line. Keke believes SAG should have therapy apart of the kids rules. Child actors can only work a certain amount of hours, they have to be fed, and have amenities/guardians to assist them along on set as per the workers union, Keke is proposing, therapy too. And we agree.

Keke Palmer On SAG Therapy For Child Actors: 3:57

“They should have therapist once a week coming to them, especially if the kid is a dramatic actor……Doing dramatic [acting] you don’t have [anything] to pull from as a child actor because you haven’t had enough experiences, life experiences…..This girl got her heart broken in this movie, I need you to cry….

as a kid you [haven’t] had your heart broken, no one has really died [in your life] yet so you don’t have anything to pull from so you’re often creating thoughts and stuff that brings upon sadness and if you don’t really know how to work yourself out of that it can really become difficult for you…” – Keke Palmer, [truncated]
