Taraji P. Henson On Proud Mary, Race, & Hollywood “This Gives Girls Power”

Taraji P. Henson recently visited AOL Build to promote her latest film Proud Mary and she delivered one of the greatest interviews of 2018. Taraji inspired the entire audience, tears came, amen’s from the audience, some even stood as Taraji spoke candidly about being a 47 year old Black action star and what it took for her to get there.

The importance of this interview soars higher than just another way to promote a film. Even if no one saw the film after this interview, Taraji would still be elated to know they took away her gems from this. Taraji opened up in a way we’ve never seen before speaking about her father and how he sowed seeds in her life as a young actress. Taraji’s father often said to her; “that aint it baby” meaning; God has something even greater for you.

Taraji P. Henson Greatest Interview:

What stood out, and is most important about the hugely successful EMPIRE star, is her conversation about making money in Hollywood. Taraji states her confusion with Hollywood companies that don’t realize women are the buying power and all races translate into dollar signs, so why not reflect that in film?

Taraji, as a producer, said she doesn’t want to make an all Black film, she wants to make a film starring Black people, Asians, Latins, Whites, etc. because they are the ones who’ll come to the theater. Films like Proud Mary, a bad ass Black female action star, which are few in between for little girls to see sparks joy within Taraji; “This gives girls power!”. Make sense right? Even though Proud Mary is going to be an amazing film, its gems like these that make film making worth seeing. Out This Friday!
