Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson, two Black men who were arrested in Starbucks for waiting for a friend settled with the city of Philadelphia for $200,000 keeping only $1 dollar each.
Early April Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson were wrongfully asked to leave Starbucks and when they refused to leave the cops were called and they were unjustly arrested causing a national outpour of rage. While waiting for a friend, two men of colour should be able to exist in public spaces without white employees feeling uneasy.
Even though this Young Entrepreneur Program is a highlight, Starbucks closing its stores to train staff is a plus, who’s training the cops?
If cops were trained to decline silly arrest and offers on sight this wouldn’t’ve happened. If cops were properly trained to see people of colour as Human beings vs a demographic of stereotypes unwarranted arrest wouldn’t happen, and Starbucks could’ve added a Black Week Free for the next five years every Black History Month if you ask me, but since you didn’t…I digress.
‘We thought long and hard about it and we feel like this is the best way to see that change that we want to see….It’s not a right-now thing that’s good for right now, but I feel like we will see the true change over time’
