Jada Pinkett Smith’s debut episode of Red Table Talk scored over 20 million views on Facebook Watch only two days after premiering on May 7th.
Facebook Watch is a new venture on Facebook where a selected few (usually celebrities and verified accounts) have the opportunity to actually post episodic television via Facebook and receive money through advertisement. Jada Pinkett Smith being the forward thinking entrepreneur that she is, chose to use this as the launching pad for her show.
Many speculated, and wondered why Jada would choose Facebook over a traditional tv channel, but when you look at the numbers, and the access, could she’d gotten over 20 million views the traditional route?
It’s important to control and own your content and Jada is not only in full control (unlike what happens via traditional tv channels), but she’s reaching millions of people in a way that’s never been done before. Over 20 million viewers and counting are watching the first time in television history, three Black Women, all family, have a talk show, that discusses topics and issues seldom spoken about, through their own lives, it’s groundbreaking!
