Azealia Banks releases her new single “Treasure Island” off of her upcoming album Fantasea II which heavily involves the mermaid theme.
Fantasea, which was Azealia Bank’s debut mixtape in 2012 featured iconic records that help make Azealia an international success like; “Atlantis”, “Luxury” and “Jumanji” to name a few. Keeping with the mermaid theme, Azealia Bank’s “Treasure Island” has a journeyful feeling, a wavy expression of rhythm and blues coupled with virtuoso rhymes to add to the hiphop element of the record.
Even though Azealia Banks unnecessarily called out Nicki Minaj for having a mermaid scene in her music video “Bed” featuring Arianna Grande, the record stands alone and would’ve brought attention to Azealia without the added controversy. Azealia’s sound and style is unique, and anyone who help cultivate a style would be upset if someone was stealing, however, Nicki Minaj, appeared not to be.
Fantasea II comes out later this year, which Azealia says, will be her best album to date.
