DAWN released a new single titled; “Jealousy” to much praise, charting number one on iTunes video chart, and number 6 over all, all as an independent artist. While DAWN is not what many would consider indie due to her major success with Danity Kane, and Dirty Money, she’s a true indie artist making history each record release.

Jealousy, a clear R&B record is not new for DAWN, but it is a major shift in music for DAWN who spent most of her indie career in an unknown space of EDM, R&B, Soul, and Pop fusion. Even though its a major shift, its a shift that her core fan base has been asking for since her record “Bombs” became their anthem. DAWN shines in R&B and fans want to see her go all the way to the top as an indie artist, and unfortunately the category she dominated, simply doesn’t push culture the way R&B/Pop traditional music does.
Jealousy is a start for DAWN to enter into a space of true major competition and soar to the top, the record is that good.
Each album presented a new era. The first was the Golden era, the second the Black era, and the last of the trilogy, the Red era. Redemption/Redemption Heart was released in 2016 and fans have wanted solo music from DAWN ever since. DAWN states, Jealousy is a new era, but we have no idea what this era will bring.
DAWN, DK3, and Dumblonde has joined forces to launch their own unique tour. Each solo artist will present, and after that, they will merge and recreate what millions of fans have come to know them from, Danity Kane (DK3). Dates of the tour have already sold out as fans are excited to see each girl shine, and with DAWN releasing new music before the tour, and DK3 in the studio making new music, its a tour you don’t want to miss!
The music video for Jealousy is a dual ode to her ex and to her heritage as a New Orleans Washitaw Nation native. The music video shares the origin of Natives of New Orleans and where DAWN fits in that fold, showing the current state of New Orleans, and the beauty in music and arts thriving even after the devastating flood. DAWN states;
The visual explains my roots in the Washitaw Nation Tribe....I wanted to show New Orleans in a light most have never seen or are aware of. The Black [Native] and Power of our traditional garb are shown in the visual. Chief Montana created my hand sewn headpiece representing the power of being both King and Queen. Our tribes spend all year beading these costumes to then dance and show off their work among other tribes. I used this practice as a metaphor for my response to his ex. Simply that I've put a lot of work beading and sewing my relationship, something she will never understand or never be able to do."
Even though DAWN has always put her life and soul into her music, it seems this era of DAWN is opening up more. Recently DAWN tweeted she suffered from domestic violence so bad that it landed her in the hospital. Coupled with the lyrics from Jealously with DAWN expressing her toxic love for an ex, this is a lot more we’ve seen from DAWN in any era.
They say music heals the soul of the one writing/singing each song and those listening. Hopefully DAWN has learned, healed, and found strength from her devastation and through the music, will be lifted into a new era, a new evolution. The Era of the DAWN.
