John Legend made history as the first Black Male EGOT winner, and one of the youngest to achieve EGOT status. John Legend has 10 Grammy awards, 1 Oscar and 1 Golden Globe for his powerful record with Common; “Glory”, 1 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play co-producing “Jitney”, and for co-producing “Jesus Christ Superstar” live concert a Creative Arts Emmy award making history as one of the very few EGOT holders.
Even though John Legend is not the first Black EGOT holder, of which Whoopi Goldberg holds that title, John is one of the first to achieve two of the EGOT’s completion by co-producing. John joins Rita Moreno, Robert Lopez, and of course Whoopi as one of the very few people of colour to, out of only 15, hold this EGOT achievement.
At only 39 years old our Legend is still creating art and serving the community through philanthropy, suffice to say this EGOT status is just the beginning, especially considering his nominated for a Primetime Emmy as well for starring in Jesus Christ Superstar!
