The secretary of state in Georgia, Brian Kemp, is running for Governor against Stacey Abrams, but he’s enforcing, as secretary, voter suppression tactics that appear to be legal. A clear conflict of interest, Brain is currently being sued by several organizations for his involvement in purging, and removing voters.
Apparently Brain is well within his rights to, even though its morally incorrect, purge voters using restrictive state laws that says anyone who has not voted in past years can be removed through the “use it or lose it” law. Over 300,000 voters have been purged from voting rolls according to an investigation. They are also activating Georgia’s ‘exact match’ policy that places voter registration on hold if it does not exactly match information obtained through driver or social security databases.
For instance; if your name is Joe Schmoe and the address, social security number and legal rights to vote all add up, but there’s an e missing from your last name (Joe Schmo), Brain has the right to hold your registration which bars you from voting. Over 53,000 people are on hold, and 70 percent of them are Afrikan American.
Early voter turnout has been enormous and historic in Georgia and Stacey Abrams is neck and neck in the governors race to win against Brain. However, even though many are showing up, many have no idea they are being purged or have been purged, thus many have been turned away.
