Instagram recently removed a Meme we posted (photo above) via TheBLACKMedia citing “harassment, and bully” as the reason for removal. The photo was originally posted Oct 17th 2018, and was removed three days after that on Oct 20th. The photo above, which we’ve reposted since it’s take down, does not harass or bully anyone! So why did Instagram remove it?
Earlier in the day on Oct 20th a supporter of TheBLACKMedia, shared the post via their Instagram story and tagged The Today Show, and The BLACK Media with the Meme as the background image. Five hours later, the post was removed!
TheBLACKMedia did not create the meme, and as you can see, the meme was possibly created year 2017. However, we did post it with the intent to make our readers and supporters aware that their’s a clear divide in this country when it comes to Marijuana and the people who use it. Black people are seen as savages and drug dealers and are often arrested, pulled over, locked up, and serving time for Marijuana, but if you’re white, as the meme suggests, you can have an entire positive pop piece created around smoking pot.
The removal of this photo not only disrupted my rights to post via Instagram, it also disrupted the structure of our instagram page! If I follow the community guidelines I should not be targeted on Instagram, having photos removed arbitrarily, or targeted because the message in the post goes against an agenda that’s so clearly marketed via The Today Show.
Even though we have no idea who reported the meme, it’s clear that once The Today Show was tagged, the meme was removed. This meme does not harass or bully anyone, it simply states the very real fact that there are many Black Men who could possibly be better fathers just like the Marijuana Mom’s if they weren’t in jail for the same thing these, mostly white women, are so openly doing on national television, in their front yard.
Yes where they live weed is legal, but that’s not the point. Harsh sentencing for weed in this climate is absolutely racial discrimination and must be stopped, not celebrated and painted as a positive thing while there are entire families destroyed for the exact same thing! Furthermore with weed being legalized in many places across the US and considered in others, those in prison, and jail for selling weed, possession of weed, or smoking weed, should be released!
Instagram should be a lot more careful with what photos they remove and offer each removal a dispute of some sort. There are many accounts against homosexuals, Black people, democrats, etc that often actually post harassing, and bullying memes, photos, and videos that exist without removal. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
Ive also been shadow banned for a week because of this. Apparently once you get a photo removed, Instagram shadow bans your account from getting likes, seen on timelines, and comments, and I must say since the photo was removed I’ve had a drastic decline in likes and comments, from almost 100 per 30 mins to literally 2 AN HOUR!!!!
Shadow banning is supposed to only last a week, but a week is a lot for a growing business, especially if you’ve done nothing wrong.
