20th Century Fox presents the highly anticipated action packed heist film, “Widows,” that is already rumored to be Oscar (2019) worthy. The Academy award winning director Steven McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”)  & best selling author and co-writer Gillian Flynn (“Gone Girl”) have teamed up to showcase the most complex adaptation seen yet.

“Widows” follows the story of four husbands whose heist goes wrong leaving the men dead and a debt left to pay. The debt carries over to the widows, played by Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious Franchise), Elizabeth Debicki and Cynthia Erivo who are forced to come together and finish the botched job or risk their fate in the hands of their husbands’ creditors.

What makes this girl power group of actresses so interesting to watch is the chemistry and humor they share together. It’s like watching a group of “Charlie’s Angels'” sorority girl lookalikes and “Heist” movie mash-up.

The storyline is set in modern-day Chicago, where turmoil stirs in regards to racial tension, interracial marriage, dirty politics, police brutality, and greed.  An additional nuance involving Veronica’s storyline, played by Davis, opens up a dialogue about those exact issues. Considering the current state of the U.S. in regards to issues alike, it was really bold of McQueen to give these topics as much depth as he did. As a result, the film gained more intrigue.

There are multiple plot twists and “Ah-ha” moments so sustain you throughout the film. The film premiered at Toronto & UrbanWorld Film Festivals earlier this month and it’s since been clamoring with buzz.

Viola told the Los Angeles Times;

“Sometimes you get a role that helps you slay certain dragons in your own life, certain obstacles…and this was one of those roles for me…to be able to reach a different level of vulnerability.”

Go see “Widows” is in theaters everywhere beginning Friday, November 16th 2018.
