Psychiatrist Dr. Michael Bloomfield urges attention to these studies which “adds weight to the advice that people who use cannabis recreationally should avoid high-THC cannabis”. While many studies were conducted with patients who already present with psychosis and use cannabis as a way to deal with it, researchers found increase psychotic disorders with non-patient consumers who use potent cannabis.

Research says THC or Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, a primary cannabinoid in weed, which is the psychoactive substance that makes you “high”, was relatively low in the late 1960s. CBD or Cannabidiol, is the other primary cannabinoid in weed a non-psychoactive substance that does not make you “high”, was higher in cannabis of the 60s. Today, scientist have found mass production of weed, and various growers are growing weed with very low CBD and very high potency in THC which is causing lasting mental health effects in younger users who use frequently.

While both THC and CBD cannabinoids have been found to be useful for various illnesses and mental health issues, it’s CBD that is more beneficial and does not cause any psychoactive behaviors in users.

As It Pertains To Culture:

Too often in hiphop culture is weed used as a healer of all things, when in reality it’s not. Weed does not heal anything, never has. The two main cannabinoids THC and CBD can be extracted and benefit patients who suffer from pain, epilepsy, acne, psoriasis, diabetes, bacterial infections, ADHD, heart disease, IBS, and a few other ailments, but high potency weed aka “stronger” weed can have lasting negative effects.

A caution to culture. Studies show non-frequent use of weed un-harmful to your mental health and overall health, even at its high potency, but “stronger” weed can be addictive, thus creating frequent usage and harmful mental health effects.

So, before we speak about getting loud, or stronger weed to make you even higher, consider the jokes you make about the people who speak super slow, or who’s reaction times are below average because they smoke too much weed. Think about what it could do to yourself and your community not before long.

Cigarettes weren’t always harmful…that is until major corporations got ahold to it. Stay Woke.
