Matthew A. Cherry manifested his 2020 Oscar Nomination in 2012, but had no idea his short animation “Hair Love” would be the dream come true. After a successful 2017 crowd funding campaign raising over $300,000; Matthew was able to create “Hair Love”.
“Hair Love” was written and conceived by Matthew who co-directed the animation alongside Everette Downing, and Bruce W. Smith. Matthew was able to get heavy hitters at Pixar: Peter Ramsey and Frank Abney to executive produce the project and in March of 2019 Sony entertainment announced they picked the short up and would debut it.
After Sony’s debut, the 6 minute short was released via Youtube for free, and it’s still there! [Watch Below]
“Hair Love” is a short film about a Black father who has to do his daughters hair for the first time. In May of 2019 “Hair Love” was adapted into a children’s book by Dial Book, and in 2020, Matthew’s short became what he manifested in 2012; his Oscar nomination!
In 2012, Matthew A. Cherry took to Twitter stating he will some day be nominated for an Oscar. Having played in the NFL, leaving the game of football to follow his dreams of being a writer and director, Matthew is a prime example of manifesting your dreams. It’s not enough to say it out loud, you have to actually do it.
