October 1st, 2024 marks the 6th annual celebration of National Melanin Day founded by Tahir Coleman Register the owner of TheBLACKMedia. This year National Melanin Day will relaunch it’s 2022 documentary (above) and observe the day as a watch day to truly understand what it means to be melanin enriched. In the coming years, Tahir plans to magnify the celebration of skin, but also the awareness of colourism in hopes to end the stigmas once and for all.
October 1st 2021 musician Shaun Robinson passed. Shaun, who was Tahir Register’s bestfriend, unexpectedly passed leaving Tahir, on his celebratory day, devastated. Because of this, Tahir decided, in 2021, to remove himself from social media for a month, missing the celebration of National Melanin Day 2021. This year, and hence forth, every October 1st will honor Shaun Robinson, a resilient, happy, jovial, and brilliant creative mind who loved his skin, and yours too.
Every October 1st, post a photo or video of yourself via social media with the hashtag; #NationalMelaninDay and show off that beautiful Christ-like Skin! Share with your friends and family your “Melanin Journey” of self-love, and help bring awareness to colourism and how we can stop its negative effects on our community.
