2017 Oscar Nominations

The 2017 Oscar nominations are in. Viola Davis, and Mahershala Ali make history! It was announced Tuesday Jan 24th, about a month before the Oscars. Finally people of colour weren’t left out this year, and with 6 nominations going to people of colour, we are going to the Oscars this year baby!

February 26th 8:30pm the Oscars airs on ABC. Viola Davis is the only Afrikan American in history to have three Oscar nominations! While she’s the only one, she’s certainly not the only deserving one. With her powerful performance in “FENCES” she may just win.

Mahershala Ali who’s performance in “MOONLIGHT” is some of his best work to date makes history as this is his first Oscar nomination ever, welcome to the Academy! Although his category is a tough one he too is a shoe-in to win this year, and I hope he does.

“Moonlight” scores 8 nominations, including the director, Barry Jenkin’s first nomination with Moonlight being only his second feature film! “FENCES” comes in with 4 nominations both are in the top leading for sweeps.
