Lupita Nyong’o announces “Sulwe” her debut children’s book coming January 2019 published by Simon and Schuster. The Academy Award winning actress isn’t the only Woman of Colour releasing books, but she’s one of the few actresses whose book will feature a Dark-skinned themed prose. Sulwe, which means star, is about a young Dark-skinned girl who is the darkest in her family determined to lighten her skin to be like the rest. It’s a story of adventure and finding ones love of self.
Lupita, who will star in The Black Panther this February, also battled with self-love because of the colour of her skin. With Sulwe, Lupita hopes to make children aware of their beauty, and the beauty of others with darker skin tones.
