Refinery29 did a short documentary on Hair Extensions back in June 2018. After over 6 million views, and counting, the shock is reaching more people everyday. Apparently hair extensions is an ungoverned business that often leaves disenfranchised Women bald, scared, shamed, fearful, or hurt.
Reports of Women being assaulted and having their hair unwittingly cut is a growing crime in the hair business. That’s right! Your 100 percent, pure, virgin Remy could very well be the hair ripped from an innocent Woman’s head! It’s ridiculous! Even when it is properly outsourced, like how Dan Choi, owner of Remy New York, handles his fair trade, the hair is still often coming from Women in need only cutting their hair because they need the money.
The beautiful Woman in the photo above, Nguyen Thi Thuy, after refusing to allow a buyer to cut her hair for $2 dollars, hesitatingly took Dan’s offer of over $100 dollars. Even though the money provided over a months worth of living for her and her family, she loved her long hair, and that energy can linger.
