Kevin Hart To Host The 2019 Academy Awards (Oscars) [UPDATED]



Kevin Hart will host the 2019 Academy Awards (Oscars) [update below] making history as only the fifth Afrikan American to do so. Kevin Hart joins the ranks with Sammy Davis Jr (First Afrikan American to host), Richard Pryor, Whoopi Goldberg, and Chris Rock.

Chris Rock was the last Afrikan American to take the Oscar stage in 2016 with a hilarious, controversial opening monologue that’s still talked about today. During the time, #OscarsSoWhite was in full swing, and people of colour were no longer staying quiet about being purposefully ignored during Hollywood’s biggest night. [see video below]



UpDate: Kevin Hart has stepped down as host after past homophobic tweets surface and after The Academy asked him to apologize for his tweets, he decides to instead, step down. See below.

"For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same...I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it's suppose to.

I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars. I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my life for a long time....To be able to join the legendary list of host that have graced that stage is unbelievable. I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right now.

I want to thank my family.friends.fans for supporting me & riding with me all this time....I will be sure to make this years Oscars a special one. I appreciate The Academy for the opportunity ....now it's time to rise to the occasion"
