Even though Louis Gossett Jr. was in attendance, he wasn’t the star of the night. 18 year old Jazz Saxophonist Avery Dixon stole the night with a smashing Jazz performance that garnered him a standing ovation. At the end of the night, it was Louis who wanted to know more about Avery.

Girls In Gowns was created by Maria Howell (The Color Purple, Revolution, Saints And Sinners) to help raise money for the non-profit organization Students Without Mothers founded by Mary Torrence Williams.

Students Without Mothers is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting high school students without mothers in continuing their education. SWM provides scholarships for college and programming to properly guide students without mothers to live their full lives, empowering a generation.

Girls In Gowns featured auctions, drinks, a VIP reception, and a full almost two hour jazz concert of your holiday favorites with impeccable comedic timing by Maria Howell, not to mention her vocal mastery, and performances by Jazz singers Deb Bowman, Karla Harris, and actress NaDej Bailey.
