Academy award nominated director John Singleton died at 51 years old after having a massive stroke that lead to him being on life support. The family took him off life support and released a statement;

“We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all of the love and support they showed him during this difficult time” Via Deadline.
Many reports hit the news of his death, which were inaccurate, after his stroke on April 17th, however, Deadline reports a spokesperson of the family released a statement and confirmed John Singleton is no longer with us.
John Singleton was the first Afrikan American to be nominated for an Academy Award as a Director for his film “Boyz N The Hood” for which he wrote and directed. John is also known for writing and directing “Poetic Justice”, “Baby Boy”, and “Higher Learning” to name a few.
John was one of the only Black directors who gave Hollywood and viewers true Black culture in film that made it successful and cult classics of today. His works will live on forever.
